El centro Pew pronostica que 32 millones de Hispanos podrán votar en las elecciones presidenciales del 2020. Seremos el bloque de votantes minorías más grande. Pero, ¿hará una diferencia? The Pew Center predicts that 32 million Hispanics will be able to vote in the 2020 presidential elections. We will be the largest minority voting bloc. But, will that make a difference?

 

¡Por supuesto que sí! Lo único que necesitamos es participar y organizarnos. Of course it will! The only thing that we need to do is participate and organize.

 

Este verano los condados de Noble, Dekalb, Kosciusko, LaGrange, y Whitley llevarán a cabo una conferencia titulada “The Tri-State Cornfield Conference” cuyo enfoque es revitalizar el partido demócrata en los estados de Indiana, Michigan, y Ohio. En este fin de semana de acción, se estará dando un taller en digital training and organizing con temas abarcando como crear una estrategia digital, herramientas digitales, creación de contendio, la analitica, y las redes sociales. This summer, Noble, Dekalb Kosciusko, LaGrange, and Whitley counties will host a The Tri-State Cornfield Conference, whose focus is to revitalize the democratic party in the states of Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. During this weekend of action, there will be a digital training and organizing workshop, with classes on how to create a digital strategy, digital tools, content creation, analytics, and social media.

 

Aparte de este entrenamiento, también habrá paneles de discusión, con temas yendo desde el cambio climático, el hambre en la región, la inmigración y el efecto de la retórica del Presidente Trump en las comunidades minorías de la región, entre más. Yo estaré moderando la plática sobre la inmigración, con mis invitados Pablo Hurtado de los Demócratas Latinos del Condado Allen y la abogada Sarah Burrows, quien estuvo brindando apoyo legal a los solicitantes de asilo en la frontera hace meses. Aside from this training, there will also be discussion panels, with topics ranging from climate change, hunger in the Midwest, immigration and the effect of Trump’s rhetoric on minority communities in the region, and more. I will be moderating the discussion on immigration, with my guests Pablo Hurtado from the Latino Democrats of Allen County, and immigration lawyer Sarah Burrows, who was on giving legal aid to asylum seekers on the border a couple months ago.

 

Los invito a no solo aprender más sobre este evento que se dará acabo el fin de semana del 28 de Junio, si no también a atender y hacer presencia, porque la verdad es que para alcanzar más a los de nuestra comunidad, necesitamos estar preparados para crear una estrategia digital para poder crear conciencia de lo mucho que podemos lograr si votamos en masa. Y junto con esto, debemos de tomar un esfuerzo en educarnos sobre los temas que más nos afectan. I’m inviting you to not only learn more about this event that is taking place on the weekend of June 28, but to also attend and make our presence known, because in order to reach more of those in our community, we need to be prepared to create a digital strategy that will create a movement that informs and empowers us to vote en masse. And along with this, we need to also take it upon ourselves to learn more about the issues that affect us.

 

El cambio que queremos ver está en nuestras manos, y en las de nadie más. Tenemos que ser nosotros los que hacemos el cambio y los que llevamos nuestro asiento a las mesas donde se toman las decisiones que nos afectan a nosotros personalmente. The change that we would like to see is in our hands and in no one else’s. It needs to be us that make the changes that we want to see, and it needs to be us that takes the chairs to the tables where decisions that affect us personally are being made.
